EL Civics

Civic Participation is designed to help English learners acquire the skills necessary to become active and informed parents and community members. Presented in most Bakersfield Adult School ESL classes, students learn how to become active and involved participants in civic affairs through hands-on activities both in the classroom and in the community. Students also explore the many cities of our county's social services and public safety agencies and learn how to access their services.

Students interested in participating in Civic Involvement activities should call 661.835.1855, ext. 61155, to register for ESL classes which include EL Civics instruction. ESL classes are offered in the mornings, Monday through Friday, from 8:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and in the evenings and Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m.
